The school musical is open to all students. You don’t have to be enrolled in a fine arts class.
Evening performances are scheduled February 25-27, 2027. School assemblies TBA.
We rehearse after school from 3-5 pm most days, however you may not be called everyday. Those cast will receive a rehearsal schedule indicating which activities/rehearsals are scheduled and when.
TECH week is scheduled for 2 weeks prior to the opening of the show. Rehearsals during this time will run later than normal, usually until 7 pm. Attendance is mandatory and other obligations will need to be rescheduled. Individual accommodations will be considered on a case by case basis if production staff is notified of conflicts in advance.
We can not cast everyone who auditions. Unfortunately, due to the size of our stage (more specifically our backstage), we cap participation to approximately 50 actors.
An optional, pre-audition informational meeting will be offered to assist in preparation for auditions by introducing songs and choreography from the show, choosing monologues & vocal selections, and learning basic audition etiquette. These will be held Monday, Sep 21st OR Tuesday, Sep 22nd from 3 - 4 pm in the CHOIR ROOM. If interested, you can choose which day since we will be covering the same material both times.
A choreography/dance video tutorial will be posted on the musical website in advance of the dance audition.
You must attend the dance audition day AND your scheduled acting/vocal audition. Acting/Vocal auditions will be held Monday thru Wednesday, Sep 28, 29, or 30 by appointment. No video auditions will be accepted. In person dance auditions will be held Thursday, Oct 1st.
There is a panel of judges who make the final casting selections. Casting is based on tallied scores based on specific criteria from all judges. Auditions are filmed for reference purposes.
Singing and acting auditions are separate from dance. You are required to come prepared with a short (30 sec - 1 min) audition monologue (see samples) and to sing 16 measures of music (preferably from a musical, although NOT from the show we are auditioning). An accompanist will NOT be provided. You may bring your own accompanist, a device with the correct aux adapter, or email a youtube link to Mrs. Johnson at ellen.johnson@jordandistrict.org. Please bring karaoke or backing track music only. You may sing a capella, however it is not recommended. Find out more at one of our workshops.
Call backs are Tuesday, Oct 6th, by invitation only. A list will be posted in the morning; the call back is held the same day after school. Not all of the cast is called back. Cast list will be posted by Thursday. After the cast list is posted, there is a tentative Parent meeting for those involved on Friday, October 9th, from 5-6 PM.
Once cast, you are making a big commitment. Seussical is a fun, high-energy show. That being the case, some named roles require significant effort and time, with rehearsals between 2-4 times a week regularly for main cast members. If you are auditioning for a lead role, you should be prepared to make this show a priority!
