Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.

WEEKLY UPDATE

September 13 - 17, 2021

This space will be used to provide brief updates for the things we will be working on for the upcoming week.

Reading

We will read the Journeys story "The Power of W.O.W." this week. Students will get a chance to participate in the reading of a play, and we will focus on reading fluency and reading with expression. We did not get a chance to do this last week, so we will go for it this week.

I will continue to use data from Lexia, our reading program, to pull students into small groups or work individually with them to fill in the gaps with their reading this week. Reading specialists will also be working with students on reading skills.

We will take the RISE (State Assessment) pre-assessment on Monday morning. This will give the students an idea of what to expect at the end of the year.

Writing

The writing assignment that students were given last week will be used to guide our writing time this week. We will work on our typing using Google Docs, and will revise and submit our papers using that program.

Language

We will again work on identifying and defining prefixes, as well as parts of speech and conjunctions this week.

Math

This week we will wrap up our first power standard which has dealt with place value models, number forms, and comparisons. The students have done really well recently and I am excited to continue our math curriculum!

I will be working with small groups and individually students this week as well based on data from our assessments.

The students are ROCKING this standard so far and I am thrilled to see how we end up.

After this power standard, our next one continues to focus on Numbers and Base Ten.

Science

We will focus more specifically on deserts this week as we continue to explore Earth's environments. We are going to start looking more at plant and animal adaptations as well.

We will continue our work from last week, learning about desert environments.

Social Studies

In Utah Studies, students are still working on learning geography, map reading, and using Google Earth to zip around the globe!

There is a quiz coming up which Mrs. Allen provided a study guide for last week. Please review that information with your students when you have a chance.

General Information

In this space I will include general school events and information for the week. These can also be found on the school calendar by click on the "School Website" tab in the menu bar at the top of the page.

  • Please remember that student attendance is expected on Fridays this year. The school sent home information a couple weeks back and I will continue to remind everyone as well. School starts at the same time as every other day (8:25am), and gets out early at 12:30pm.

  • I have a training to attend this Wednesday, so I will have a substitute teacher that day.

  • We have our Reflections Clinic this Thursday night from 4:30-7:00 pm at the school. Students can come and get help with their projects and/or complete them if they would like. There will be a variety of materials available for students to use, and several teachers and PTA members on-hand to help the students. This is a great opportunity for students to get their first Distinguished Cub requirement knocked-out!

  • I will send home an updated progress report with your student Monday afternoon. You can always see updated grades anytime online via Skyward as well.
