Weekly Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
What an absolutely spectacular day it has been at our school! This afternoon the infant hall was alive with the rhythm, rhyme, and incredible enthusiasm of our inaugural Poetry Eisteddfod. Held today to coincide with National Poetry Day, this special event showcased the phenomenal talent, creativity, and bravery of all our children.
From our youngest pupils in Reception reciting poetry for the first time to our confident, dramatic Year 6 children we could not be prouder. Standing up on stage to perform takes immense courage, and every single child rose to the occasion beautifully. The peer support in the audience was equally heart-warming, with children celebrating every performance. Thank you to all the staff for their hard work in preparing the children, and to Mrs Chapman for organising the even. Most importantly, huge congratulations to all our pupils—you are all superstars!
Alongside today's poetic celebrations, we have also been looking ahead to the future. Our prospective Reception intake tours for families looking to join our school community next September have officially commenced. Choosing a primary school is a monumental decision, and we love opening our doors to show families what makes our school environment so special.
If you, or anyone you know, has a child due to start school in September 2027, we would love to welcome you to our next open morning. This will take place on Monday 5th October at 9:30am. Please contact the school office to book a slot, as places fill up quickly.
A vital part of these tours is showing off the wonderful leadership within our student body, and our Year 6 school officials and prefects have done an outstanding job this week. Acting as the face of our school, they spoke eloquently to prospective parents during the tours, answering questions with maturity and sharing their genuine love for our school.
Their leadership didn't stop at our school gates, either. This week, the same children also paid a very special visit to the children at Storybook Nursery. Armed with their own favourite childhood storybooks, the prefects and school captains spent the afternoon reading aloud to a very excited crowd of nursery children. The nursery staff were incredibly impressed by how kind, engaging, and encouraging our older pupils were. Seeing our oldest students inspire the next generation of readers was an absolute joy and a perfect reflection of our school values.
Thank you to our entire school community for making this such a vibrant and successful week. We hope the children enjoy a well-deserved rest this weekend, perhaps sharing a poem or two at home!
Take care,
Mr Fielder

WEAR YELLOW DAY - FRIDAY 9th OCTOBER
On Friday 9th October we are celebrating Mental Health Awareness Day here at JOPS. As well as wearing something yellow, the children are going to be taking part in some mindfulness activities which they can also practice at home to support their mental health and wellbeing. Look out for clues linked to these in our facebook posts released on the day.
This year for Wear Yellow Day we will be supporting You and Me Couselling, a service which has supported several of our children at JOPS. Please send your child in with a voluntary donation of a pound or whatever you can afford and there will be buckets on the school gate. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.

Article of The Week
At JOPS one of our core values is Identity. We know how important it is for all children to feel a sense of identity and this starts with knowing their name and where they come from. This weekend take the time to tell your children why you chose their name and why it is important to you as their parents.

Book of The Week
Room on the Broom is a magical story about a friendly witch and her cat. As they fly, the witch keeps losing her things! Luckily, helpful animals find them. In return, they all squeeze onto her broomstick. But when a scary dragon appears, the animals must work together to save her. It is a funny, rhyming tale about friendship.
