Weekly Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you have enjoyed the first week back at JOPS as much as we have and your children have been excited to tell you all about their new classes and what they have been learning. It’s been a really positive first week back and I've been really impressed with how many children I've seen demonstrating our core values and putting great effort into their learning. Well done to everyone!

Thank you to everyone who attended our Welcome to the Year Group meetings, both in person and online. Your engagement and questions are much appreciated. We have trialled recording these sessions this week based on parent feedback though at this time we are unable to post them on our website due to the size of the files. We are exploring other alternatives for how to share these but in the meantime you will be able to access all the slides on our website and also at the bottom of this newsletter.

You will have also noticed that we have changed the format for our weekly newsletter. I hope you like it though, as always, I would welcome your feedback as to whether it is an improvement and any other changes which could be made.

Free School Meals Funding

Each year the school receives funding for children who are eligible for Free School Meals. Recently a new system has been introduced which requires all eligible families to reapply. Some families may be unsure as to whether they are eligible so we would encourage every family to complete the following form to find out. This funding is vital to help the school support its children and provide opportunities for our most disadvantaged children so please use the following link:

SCHOOL CAPTAINS 2026-27

Today we held our 2026-27 School Captain Elections. I would like to congratulate all the children who delivered speeches. They spoke with confidence and should all be proud of themselves. The votes will be diligently counted over the weekend and we will inform children of the outcome next week!

Farid's First Day is a fantastic new addition to our library at JOPS. In Farid's First Day by Frances Tosdevin, a young boy named Farid navigates his nerves and tries to fit in after moving to a new house and starting at a new school.

Welcome to the JOPS Forest School: Mighty Oaks

The James Oglethorpe Primary School are proud to announce “The Mighty Oaks” Forest School - Children will be invited to participate in nature based learning incorporating our six principles.

A big big thank you!

To Mr Fielder for his vision of learner-centred outdoor experiences for our children. The site team who helped get our “Mighty Oaks” site ready; they did lots of work behind the scenes. JOPS Parent Association for the gift of the container “The Woodland Pantry” this will be our hub for storage, crafting and reading. From September I will be inviting groups of children to “The Mighty Oaks” forest school for a six week block of sessions - one afternoon a week. These groups of children will rotate throughout the academic year until each class has had an opportunity to experience forest school during their school journey.

I look forward to sharing some of the children's adventures with you!
