My name is Melanie Tiner. This is my sixth year teaching at MacArthur and my 18th year of teaching.
I entered the field of Special Education several years after giving birth to a daughter with Autism Spectrum Disorder. As my husband and I sought out the best treatment for our daughter, we were often discouraged that various teachers and therapists had a low prognosis for her future. We finally found a specialist that assured us that there was no limit to what our daughter could accomplish. After seeing my daughter work so hard and achieve so much, I was motivated to advocate for other students like her. As part of that journey, I completed a Master's Degree in Special Education in December of 2011. In addition, I achieved National Board Certification in 2014 as an Exceptional Needs Specialist. Finally, I earned an Educational Specialist Degree in Special Education Administration in December of 2017.
I am married, have three children, one son-in-law, and a precious grandson who is almost five years old.
