Meet the Teacher
Hello!
I am Rebecca Warnick Baker, an Arkansas farm girl and a 3rd generation educator. I love being outside and playing in the dirt, but, I also love empowering students.
Attending college immediately after high school was always the plan, but family obligations led to putting my education on hold for several years. I returned to school at the age of 45 and earned 3 degrees in 6 years: Associate of Arts in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts in English, and Master of Education in Educational Leadership. December 2024, I added an Educational Specialist in Reading degree and dyslexia and reading specialist certifications. It is never too late to learn!
Before returning home to Arkansas in 2021, I served for 8 years at Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, Texas as the ESL & Dyslexia Coordinator and Intervention Specialist. Prior to BNHS, I served a neighboring district for 5 years as a Special Education Teaching Assistant/Paraprofessional. I am passionate about all learners, but I definitely have a calling to support struggling learners. There is always a reason a student struggles. It is my privilege to help students understand their struggles, learn how to overcome their struggles when possible, and work around their struggles when necessary. All students can learn. Some simply learn in different ways.
This is my 1st year at The Academies at Jonesboro High School, my 5th year in Jonesboro Public Schools, and my 18th year in education. I love teaching and I love my students! My daily goal is to empower all students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to be successful in school and beyond. I look forward to partnering with you to make the 2025-2026 school year the best year yet!
Ms. Baker
