Students and Parents,
Students entering 8th-grade Pre-AP Algebra 1 may have a few gaps in their prior content knowledge. While these gaps typically do not prevent students from being successful in the course, we want to ensure the transition into Pre-AP Algebra 1 is as smooth as possible.
To support students, Dr. Stitts, our district STEM specialist, has created an optional “Summer Learning Packet” designed to reinforce key concepts and address potential gaps in understanding. Although completion of the packet is encouraged, it is not required.
Below, you will find a document outlining the concepts students will be learning, along with links to the corresponding lesson videos located directly beneath each title.
Students will bring home both Volume One and Volume Two of the 8th-grade curriculum on May 13 and 14. These materials will be needed to complete the optional Summer Learning Packet.

If your child will not be returning to MacArthur before the end of the school year, please let me know so we can make arrangements for you to pick up their workbooks.
Have a great summer!
Mrs. Shepherd
Welcome Back, Cyclones! I am Mrs. Shepherd, and I will be your math teacher this year. This year marks my 24th year of teaching and my 9th year teaching at MacArthur. Before teaching at MacArthur, I taught at Marion Junior High School for six years and spent nine years teaching in Memphis City Schools.
I grew up in a small town in Central Massachusetts named Royalston. This town was known for its Dairy Farms and country living. Upon graduation from high school, I attended a two-year college where I earned an associate's degree. I then transferred to the University of Memphis (Go Tigers Go!) and obtained my Bachelor's in Education. I eventually went on to pursue my Master's Degree there as well.
I am married to my fabulous husband, Josh, who is a school administrator. We have two wonderful children. Jacob is 13 and headed to the 7th grade, and Sadie is 7 and headed to 2nd grade. Between their athletic activities and school, they keep us busy.
I am looking forward to working with you this year! Let's knock it out of the park!
