Welcome to Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS)

Welcome to Family and Consumer Sciences! I am excited to begin my 42nd year of teaching and look forward to an incredible year of learning, growth, and success with my students.

As a lifelong learner and dedicated educator, my greatest goal is to help every student recognize their strengths, discover their potential, and develop the confidence to achieve their goals. Family and Consumer Sciences is much more than learning to cook or sew—it is a course that prepares students with practical life skills they will use every day. Through hands-on experiences, students build creativity, critical thinking, communication, leadership, problem-solving, and responsibility.

An important part of our program is Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), our Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO). FCCLA provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, participate in community service, explore career pathways, compete in events, and make a positive impact in their school and community. Together, the FCS curriculum and FCCLA help students connect classroom learning to real-life experiences while preparing them for future careers and lifelong success.

My hope is that every student embraces the opportunities available in this class, takes responsibility for their learning, challenges themselves to exceed expectations, and becomes a positive, productive member of society. I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom—it shapes character, builds confidence, and prepares students for success socially, physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically.

Teaching is more than my profession—it is my passion. I truly love working with young people and watching them grow into capable, confident individuals. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student's face light up when they understand a new concept, solve a problem, or accomplish something they once thought was impossible. Those moments remind me why I chose this career over four decades ago.

Every student deserves a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where they are encouraged to do their best. My commitment is to challenge, encourage, and inspire each student while helping them develop the knowledge, skills, and character they need for the road ahead.
