Dedicated to creating a new learning environment for students and alumni alike and offering lifelong qualitative education to alumni, Back to School for the Planet is a French association providing guidance and tools for higher education programs to help them give their alumni access to new sustainability-focused classes. The UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 includes the promotion of lifelong learning, and Back to School for the Planet provides a model for its implementation by bringing alumni into the classroom alongside current students, adding an entirely new dimension to active learning and community building.
Back to School for the Planet builds on the often already existing relationship between higher education programs and their alumni to facilitate the access of the latter to state-of-the-art, up-to-date teaching content in order to accelerate adoption of sustainable practices by current professionals in their respective fields. This also creates an opportunity for higher education institutions to develop new bonds with alumni while updating their skills and providing an invaluable experience for current students, who benefit from classroom interactions and knowledge sharing with alumni of their program.
