Line Manager: Deputy Headteacher
Pay Range: TLR1c and MPS/UPS (+ London Fringe) dependent on experience and qualifications
Work Pattern: Full-time permanent position (Please note there is the possibility of Trust wide, remunerated work for a suitably qualified candidate.)
Core Purpose
To be accountable for leading, managing and developing the Science Faculty
To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the Science Faculty and to monitor and support student progress
To be accountable for student progress and development within the Science Faculty
To model best practice and to develop and enhance the teaching practice of others
To lead and ensure the provision of a broad, balanced, relevant and suitably adapted curriculum for students studying Science, in accordance with the school's aims and curricular policies
To manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the Science Faculty to support the designated curriculum portfolio effectively
To lead the implementation of school policies and procedures within the Science Faculty
Main Responsibilities
TEACHING
To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the requirements of the role
To be aware of the school’s More Able policy and take responsibility for delivering its day to day provision within the Science Faculty
To be aware of the school’s SEND policy and take responsibility for delivering its day to day provision within the Science Faculty
CURRICULUM PROVISION AND DEVELOPMENT
To liaise with the relevant SLT Line Manager to ensure the provision of a broad and rich curriculum that meets the aims of the school and the needs of all students
To ensure that innovative and appropriate approaches to learning are made available to students with specific learning needs, including the More Able, and as part of a wider curriculum offer
To work with other curriculum leaders to agree schemes of learning so that the content of courses is complementary
To ensure that all statutory requirements of the National Curriculum are met
To evaluate regional, national and international initiatives to promote learning, and incorporate appropriate elements into the school’s strategy for best practice in the teaching of Science
To liaise with the Examinations Officer to maintain accreditation with the relevant examination and validating bodies
STAFF LEADERSHIP
To be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of staff within the Science Faculty and to act as a positive role model
To ensure that staff development needs are identified and that appropriate programmes are designed to meet such needs
To be responsible for the efficient and effective deployment of any technicians/support staff
To undertake Performance Management Review(s) and to act as reviewer for a group of staff within the Science Faculty
To promote teamwork and motivate staff to ensure effective working relations
MANAGEMENT INFORMATION
To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning the work of the Science Faculty on the management information system
To make intelligent use of analysis and to evaluate performance data provided
To identify and take appropriate action on issues arising from data, systems and reports; setting deadlines where necessary and reviewing progress on the action taken
To provide the SLT with relevant information relating to the performance and development of the Science Faculty
COMMUNICATIONS AND LIAISON
To ensure effective communication/consultation as appropriate with the parents of students at The John Warner School and feeder primary schools
To liaise with partner schools, higher education, industry, examination boards, awarding bodies and other relevant external bodies, as required
To represent the Science Faculty’s views and interests and contribute to the planning and delivery of school liaison activities
SCHOOL ETHOS
To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage and ensure staff and students to follow this example
To uphold and promote both the school’s values and those of Danes Educational Trust
