About Your School Counselors
Ms. Butler is from Benson, NC and also attended Johnston County Public Schools as a child. This school year will be her 5th year as a School Counselor and she is thrilled for the 24-25 school year! Ms. Butler currently resides in Garner with her pup, Dolly. In her free time, she enjoys doing yoga, going on walks and hikes with Dolly, reading, spending time with family and friends, watching Psychological Thriller movies, and exploring new restaurants. She is also a huge coffee drinker!
When working with students, she actively listens to their story, asks thought-provoking questions to help them discover their solutions. Her goal is to empower and motivate students to believe in themselves to be successful. She focuses on highlighting their strengths, cultivating an empathetic relationship, and collectively working together to determine their personal, social/emotional or academic goals. In addition, she collaborates with teachers to determine the student's needs to eliminate any barriers to their learning environment.
Ms. Wood hails from Asheville, North Carolina, but has called Willow Spring home for the past 27 years, where she and her family have thrived. A proud mother of three grown children—two currently attending ECU and NC State—Ms. Wood is deeply rooted in her community. She earned her degree in Special Education from East Carolina University, with a concentration in reading instruction, and is now completing her master's in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling at ECU.
An avid reader and mountain hiking enthusiast, Ms. Wood finds solace and inspiration in nature. She lives on a family farm surrounded by her beloved dogs, cats, cows, alpacas, and donkeys.
Ms. Wood believes that relationships are the cornerstone of a thriving society. In her work with students, she meets them where they are—developmentally, emotionally, and intellectually—building on their strengths and equipping them with the tools they need to succeed. She is passionate about fostering authentic connections with students, their families, and the wider community, helping each individual contribute to and thrive in society.
