“Through hard work, inspiration, mutual respect and enjoyment, we will achieve success together.”
Welcome to the 2021-22 academic year! I am delighted with the manner in which students have started back and settled down to learning. As set out in my assemblies there will be more character-development opportunities this year compared to last with trips, visits and events and it is very encouraging to see that sports fixtures have started up again. I recommend the PE Instagram account as a way of keeping track of results. In fact a number of subjects are using Twitter and Instagram, which is a great way for students and parents to keep up with what is going on. You may be getting tired of the building site photos, but this is a particularly exciting time for the school in terms of improving the facilities for students so there will be more!
By now students will have completed a full red/blue cycle of their timetables and should know their way to all lessons. Year 7 students are being given a little more time, but for other year groups we are looking for greater all around punctuality to lessons this year, with those arriving 5 minutes late or more being awarded a C3 after-school detention. The more time in lessons the greater the level of learning.
The news around vaccinations is moving quickly at the moment and I will keep you informed through the JCS Update emails usually towards the end of the week. For other matters relating to a particular year group I recommend the Parent Information Evening (PIE) videos and presentations which are available on the school website.
We are still awaiting the outcome of the consultation on exam arrangements for Years 11 and 13 in the summer of 2022, but our assumption at this stage is that exams will go ahead with some slight modifications in line with what had been planned for last year's exam groups before the January lockdown led to the introduction of Teacher Assessed Grades.
I am sure that you will join me in wishing for a more 'normal' school year.
On the 22nd September JCS U13 Girls played their second game of the season. It was a tightly contested match finishing 4-3 to Dr. Challoners High School. Well done girls. Player of the match went to one of our super defenders.
On 15 September our U13 Football Team played their first ever match for JCS against Aylesbury High School. It was a tight game with a 1 – 1 draw to finish. Well done to our GK who was awarded player of the match!
Match Report
On 30th September we played Tring in a friendly. We had a bit of a slow start coming into the game, which then led to being 2-0 down. We kept our heads high and got two goals back to make it 2-2 at half time. The second half was like a game of ping pong, very back and forth, until we stepped up and went three goals in front. Towards the end we conceded two goals but still kept our lead.
It ended John colet 5-4 Tring. Very well done to all the girls, and well done to Clara for getting player of the match.

Please be aware we no longer use Vale Travel for the school bus. The new company is Motts . Any enquiries/bookings need to be directed to Buckinghamshire Council.
I am very pleased to announce we are holding a whole school production this year to be performed in February 2022.
We are doing 'Our House' the Madness musical, an energetic, joyful and funny show.
In the auditions students will perform a scene as a group and sing a verse and chorus from a song on their own.
Further information will be added to the website with booking tickets in due course.
The JCS House Championship has started once more with house assemblies taking place throughout September. There are a number of new Heads of Houses so we now have Miss Bendel leading Jade House, Mrs Strachan-Harvey with Garnet and Mr Devine with Topaz. Mrs Gill, Mrs Boyd-Leslie and Miss Harling are all continuing with Citrine, Zircon and Amethyst respectively. There have also been new Year 12 house captains elected to support the houses.
The House Cup for 20/21 was presented to the winning house, Jade, in their assembly on Monday. Huge congratulations to Jade House on their win!
Looking to 2021/22, competitions will soon begin taking place and in this first half term there are a huge number of events planned. Students will be able to support their houses by showcasing their talents at the House Talent Contest, writing a poem for a National Poetry Competition or taking part in the return of Inter-House Sports competitions as well as taking advantage of many other opportunities throughout the term.
Competitions that took place right at the end of the term last year have had their points rolled into this year and that has seen Jade taking 80 points for 1st and 2nd place in the MFL Spelling Bee and Garnet taking 20 points for 3rd place. Also, the following points have been added from the Dodgeball and Rounders contests. Amethyst - 150, Citrine - 120, Garnet - 140, Jade - 210, Topaz - 140 and Zircon - 120.
We look forward to an exciting year of competition, perseverance and community spirit ahead and can't wait to see which house will be the 2021/22 winners of the JCS House Cup!
On 16 September, the U15 Girl’s played their first match of the year against Amersham and won 6 – 1. What a fantastic first game with a Hatrick scored. Well done girls!
Years 7 – 11 Girls first PE Rugby Session at Aylesbury Rugby Club with Next Phase Academy.
On 20 September, our Year 8 boys played Tring in their second friendly losing 4-3 in a hard fought game. Great effort boys!
After a year of no fixtures, it was so good to be back playing.
On 13 September, Year 11 boys played Cottesloe – after a tightly fought game, they were unlucky to lose 4 – 3.
Well done to the John Colet School Cross Country Team who competed at Cottesloe on 28 September. A special mention should go to the junior boys who all finished within the top 5 and a great 2nd place to one of our girls.
Great start for the Year 8 boys Rugby who played Tring. It was a really competitive match so well done to the Colet for a great win.
First game of the season for our Under 16 girls and first win against Mandeville. Final score 28 – 13 to JCS. Well done girls.
Remember that vehicles should not be driven onto campus unless you are authorised to do so by the school office. Please park and walk. Unauthorised drivers are increasing the risk of accident by significantly adding to the volume of traffic.
If authorised to do so, parents should drop-off directly in front of reception. Please do not use the parking bays for drop-off. The car-park directly in front of school is for staff vehicles only.
Full Job Description is available on the John Colet School website.
If your circumstances have changed recently and you think you are eligible for free school meals please get in touch via pupilpremium@johncolet.co.uk and we can do a simple check for you.
Please can all staff, parents and students who drive to school be more considerate when parking nearby. Please do not block our neighbours driveways, park directly opposite them or endanger lives by parking on the yellow lines.
Also, please be aware that the Memorial Hall Car Park and the Wendover Health Centre are not to be used for dropping off and collecting students to and from school.
We have numerous items of lost property including coats , odd shoes and trainers. If you are missing any items, please ask your son or daughter to visit Matron's office. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of term.
At John Colet we have a 'no see, no hear' policy for mobile phones while students are on school site. Students are asked to turn off their phones and put them away after the morning bell and are only allowed to use their phones at the end of the day as they leave.
Students going to after school clubs and activities are permitted to use their phones on the school site after 4pm. Outside of lessons, time before school, at break and lunchtimes is important for socialising and meeting friends; we want to encourage students to talk to their friends rather than being attached to their mobile phones. if a student needs to contact their parent/carer they should go to student support where they will be allowed to ring home.
Should you need to contact your son or daughter please contact the School Office and we will get a message to the student. Unfortunately, at times parents try to contact students directly which causes their phone to go off during lessons - this results in the student having their phone confiscated as per our school policy and it will be a parent/carer that will have to pick the mobile phone up from the School Office.
Students are in school to learn and should not be distracted from this so we do ask that you do not contact them directly during the school day.
