Dear Parent/Carers,
It’s been an incredible couple of weeks at John Colet. We were beyond delighted with our open events with all three of our Head’s address sessions sold out and a packed house on both the Thursday evening event and the Monday morning session. We have had some delightful feedback about our student tour guides and the number of students who attended to assist in department areas on Thursday evening made the school feel like it was in full session!
This week we had a new event launched for our Year 11 parent/carers which was focussed on preparation for examinations. This included information on exam regulations, exam preparation, how parents can support their child and next steps post year 11 pathways. We genuinely feel that with good parental support students make good gains. Again we have been delighted with the number of bookings with well over 60% of students having a parent/carer in attendance.
On the horizon our next big event is our ‘Into the Sixth’ evening which is one aspect of the next pathways that our students could consider. With our Year 12 full from last year’s application round and an increase in applications outside of John Colet places will be hard fought for so please make sure you attend to be fully informed of our sixth form culture, ethos and application process.
Our school production was also bringing the house down last week and after shenanigans with the licensing company I take my hat off in salute to the staff and students who still managed to ensure that ‘School Of Rock’ was a great success after the six week summer break. A huge thank you for their efforts and to all the parent/carers who supported the event.
At John Colet School, we are committed to celebrating the achievements, contributions and experiences of our diverse communities, while encouraging our students to reflect on how they can contribute to positive change in their own communities. As part of our inclusivity program later this month, all year groups will take part in Black History Month assemblies, providing students with the opportunity to learn, reflect and celebrate Black history and achievement.
During form time, students will also be exploring the theme “Who makes a difference to Black communities in your world?” Each student will be invited to nominate an individual who they feel has made a positive difference to Black communities. Students will create posters celebrating their chosen individual, which will be displayed in form rooms and provide a focus for discussion throughout the month.
Across the school, our departments are also celebrating Black pioneers and inspirational individuals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields. Large displays have been placed around the school, giving students the opportunity to learn more about their achievements and impact. We look forward to celebrating Black History Month with our students and using it as an opportunity to honour our community, celebrate achievement, encourage positive change and share new perspectives.
Take Care - Ian Brierly

SPORTING FIXTURES & DETENTIONS
At John Colet, we believe that representing the school in a team or attending an extracurricular club is a privilege and an important part of school life.
In line with our whole-school behaviour policy and our John Colet Values, students who have a detention scheduled on the day of a club or fixture are expected to attend their detention as planned. Detentions cannot be moved to accommodate clubs or fixtures.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing this expectation and helping us to ensure that our systems remain fair and consistent for all students.
