CATERING & HOSPITALITY
Welcome to the Food Department at John Colet School. A department focussed on creating opportunities and assisting students in building their futures. With a variety of excellent facilities, students get involved in a wide scope of recipes, techniques and experiences to prepare students for working in the practical industry of hospitality and catering.
Students leave the Food Department, prepared for their future, whether this is just being able to cook at home, or going on to work in industry. John Colet School believes in the importance of practical life skills, to prepare students personally and academically.
Why not check out what our students and staff are getting up to on the official department Instagram? Our department aims to post as many updates of the exciting curriculum and activities that students and staff complete over the different areas in the department.

KS4
Once students can opt to choose Food as a GCSE. The department currently is transitioning from one qualification to another. Students in Y10 and Y11 are enrolled on the AQA Food Preparation and Nutrition course, whilst students in Y9 are enrolled on the WJEC Hospitality and Catering course.
The courses are both taught in a similar style/content at all years but the way in which students are assessed is slightly different. These differences can be seen in the specifications below and the coursework pages. The curriculum overviews summarise the journey students take through the course. These are a great help to students trying to understand what, why and how they are going to be doing over their time with us in Food. For more details on the course that you / your child is taking part in please email your class teachers.
As a school and department, we understand that in these current times, it can be hard to provide students with the required ingredients for their practicals in food lessons. At the start of each rotation (KS3) / year (KS4) a Google form, like the image to the right, will be posted on the student's Google Classroom for parents to fill out requesting John Colet to provide ingredients for practicals for your child.
If you believe your child classifies as Pupil Premium and you have completed the form we will then be able to provide ingredients. To check your eligibility for Pupil Premium funding click the button below to check the policy and then email pupilpremium@johncolet.co.uk
