Joanne Roberts is a journalist, filmmaker, and storyteller who has spent her career carving out space in industries that weren’t built for her.
From theatre to film to investigative journalism, her work is driven by a singular purpose: to amplify voices that have been overlooked. Her autobiographical film Anak won the Emerging Filmmaker’s Pitch at the Gimli International Film Festival, and her journalism has sparked national conversations, particularly Being Asian: Competing Truths, which became a key resource in Canadian schools.
Known as Winnipeg’s Reporter in Pink, Joanne blends traditional and digital media, bringing audiences into stories with an immediacy that redefines how journalism connects with communities. As a host and reporter for Citytv, she has led major cultural coverage, from breaking news to deep-dive specials. She has also interviewed some of Canada’s most influential figures, from artists to political leaders.
At the heart of her work is trust. She doesn’t just cover stories—she bears witness, standing alongside the communities she serves. Whether in front of a camera or behind the scenes, Joanne continues to break barriers, ensuring the stories that need to be told are heard.
