Because... we ain't readin' all'at.
The Club Constitution of the Historic Hours Club serves as a baseline for club activity and as a go-to for behavioral checks and other compromise-worthy happenings. The only members of the club required to accept the constitution are the officers.
Summary:
The Club is led by a Central Officer Commission consisting of the President, Vice Presidents, General Administration, and the Secretariat.
The President holds supreme authority, presides over all commissions, and may pardon offenses.
The General Administration manages day-to-day operations, with Vice Presidents overseeing departments.
The Secretariat, led by a Secretary-General and General Secretary, handles specialized offices and policies.
Independent offices/programs outside the Commission remain under the President’s authority.
A Club Advisor oversees operations, ensuring alignment with school principles and objectives.
Members and the Advisor may act if officers neglect duties, but the Commission is responsible for fixing its own inefficiencies.
Leadership must coordinate with school administration for large events.
Quorum (majority agreement) is required for Commission decisions.
The President is the ultimate authority: issues binding regulations, appoints/dismisses officers, and may issue Presidential Orders.
Vice Presidents and Secretariat offices are appointed and dismissed solely at the President’s discretion.
Members must respect historical truth; misrepresenting history is a serious violation.
History is to be studied factually—members cannot take personal offense at historical record.
Officers must act with honesty, avoid false promises, and remain accountable.
Officers must conduct themselves with professionalism, respect, and order during meetings and events.
Officers serve at the pleasure of the President and Advisor, with dismissal possible if trust is broken.
Historic Hours is a Creativity Club under CAS, but classified as an Activity Club for attendance/social media.
Misclassification on ManageBac may invalidate CAS credit.
The Club provides a platform for history enthusiasts to discuss, debate, and learn history freely.
Activities include lectures, discussions, roleplays, debates, guest speakers, and tours, with potential collaboration with other clubs/organizations.
Amendments may be proposed by two-thirds of the Commission or membership.
Ratification requires approval from three-fourths of the Commission or members.
The President and Commission cannot veto amendments once quorum is met.
Amendments altering officer roles take effect only at the next appointment cycle.
This Constitution is the supreme law of the Club, binding on all officers and members.
Officers must take an oath of loyalty to uphold it.
The Constitution takes effect once ratified by the President and three Principal Officers.
Officially ratified on December 17, 2024.
