This is the third annual This Girl Can event here at JHNCC. In order to ensure this campaigns is effective, we asked students the reasons that prevented them from taking part in sports or physical activity. The main reasons identified were a perceived lack of time and self-confidence.
To overcome these barriers, we created a This Girl Can Leadership Academy. This involved students planning, promoting and delivering activities to increase students' participation in Sport and Physical Activity.
“I enjoyed helping others get involved with sports and convincing others to take part and not be ashamed of who they are. I also enjoyed the day with the primary schools as we were able to teach them and encourage them”
- Madison, Year 10.
Following their participation in the campaign, students also reported that their self-confidence and activity levels had improved.
"The campaign really improved my confidence when leading others. I really enjoyed encouraging other girls to engage in different sports and activities"
-Taylor, Year 8.
Despite the unprecedented times that we are all currently experiencing, The This Girl Can Council would like to encourage you to continue to engage in physical activity and sport.
"We would encourage all students and staff to take part in our daily challenges and workouts. Physical activity makes you feel good about yourself and boosts your mood. One of the biggest barriers often faced is time. However, now, most of us have more time than ever to get involved and give something new a try!"
