There are a number of avenues of support available to you in school.
Your welfare is the priority of every member of staff, and we want to be able to support. You should feel empowered to talk to any member of staff that you trust.
Your form tutor is someone you’ll see every morning during registration, they’ll get to know you really well over time. If something’s bothering you, they’re a great first person to speak to. Even if they can’t fix it themselves, they’ll help point you in the right direction.
You’ll probably see your Head of Year around school most days. They’re here to help with all kinds of things, whether it’s to do with schoolwork, friendships, stuff going on at home, or anything else that’s on your mind. For HoYs 7-11, you can usually find them in the Pastoral Office on the SLT corridor. For HoYs 12 & 13, they can be located in their office off the Gardham Room.
They also work closely with your teachers and other staff, so they can help make sure the right people are supporting you when needed.
A DSL is a specially trained member of staff you can talk to about anything that’s upsetting you, whether it’s happening at school, at home, online, or anywhere else. They’re here to listen, support you, and help you get the right help if you need it. You will see their faces around the school on posters in every classroom. The Designated safeguarding lead is Mr Hathaway with his deputy being Miss Burrow. They are supported by the following additional DSLs: Mr McCormack, Mrs Pook, Mr Sammels, Mr Khan and Mr Kingman.
You can email the DSL team at safeguarding@jhgs.bucks.sch.uk
Miss Randell is based in the SLT corridor and is here to help if you're feeling low, stressed, unwell, or unsure about what to do. She’s someone you can talk to about anything that’s worrying you.
She can also refer you to people like the school counsellor, mentors, or your Head of Year if you need more support.
We have three counsellors in school – Mrs Crouch, Ms Bellars, and Mrs Bains (who also works as a Family Link). They’re here to support you if you’re struggling emotionally and offer a safe, private space to talk.
To book a session, just speak to Miss Randell or your Head of Year they'll help you get started.
Alternatively, you can email the lead school counsellor at vcrouch@jhgs.bucks.sch.uk, if you wish to access their services.
At JHGS, we have a team of staff members trained as Mental Health First Aiders. That means they’re here to listen, offer support, and help you find the right help if you're struggling with your mental health or wellbeing, just like a first aider would for a physical injury.
You can speak to them if you're feeling anxious, low, stressed, or just not quite yourself. They're here for students and staff alike.
Our Mental Health First Aiders are:
Mrs Crouch
Mr Kingman
Mr McCormack
Mrs Pook
Miss Randell
Mrs Drayton-Freier
