Dr. Jenay 

Dr. Jenay Garrett, LPC, CCTP

Owner/Counselor

Dr. Jenay Garrett is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and a Certified EMDR therapist. She attended Old Dominion University earning both her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Human Services in 2009 and Masters’ degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2012. Dr. Jenay earned her Ph.D. in Human & Social Services at Walden University in March 2022. Her researched focused on the reintegration experiences of parents/guardians of teenage African American daughters who were released from detention.  

Dr. Jenay has worked in the human services and mental health fields for 14 years, working in settings ranging from shelters, non-profit organizations, public schools, in-patient facilities, community and outpatient therapeutic services. She has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, groups, and families with a variety of presenting issues to include depression, self-esteem, various forms of abuse, anxiety, anger, relationship issues, at-risk behaviors, homelessness, and foster care. She specializes in working with individuals who have experienced trauma/PTSD, suicidal ideations, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Jenay utilizes an integrated approach to counseling which includes Trauma-Informed Care, EMDR, Dreamwork, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Feminist Theory to help clients process through their experiences in a healthy manner.

 Dr. Jenay, also enjoys providing trainings on the intergenerational impact of racial trauma, conflict resolution, communication, and workplace culture. She is also passionate about breaking down the stigmas associated with mental health in minority communities, which is the foundation of the Swerve The Stigma Projected she founded in July of 2018. Dr. Jenay believes that her purpose in life is to use her professional experience, educational knowledge, and passion for service to help other’s journey to a state of peace and healing by providing a non-judgmental space for exploration, support, and growth.
