When researching the subject of fall-time activities, I discovered that “Fall (Autumn) is the overall favorite season for most Americans…Recent surveys by Morning Consult and others show that 41% to 45% of Americans prefer fall, significantly more than spring, summer, or winter.” Additionally, fall has the ideal weather of warm and cool days that can be sunny and breezy during the months of September, October, and November that many people wish for throughout the year. Some of the most popular fall activities often include visiting variations of pumpkin patches or orchards, corn mazes and hayrides, along with many Halloween festivities like trick-or-treating and fall parties. “Some beloved fall traditions are apple picking, watching leaves change, tailgating, attending football games, and celebrating with seasonal foods like pumpkin pie and apple cider.”
There are many different sports that start during this time of the year, such as football, tennis, soccer, etc. The most popular of the fall sports is football. One source says how “College football revenue is in the billions annually, with the NCAA generating nearly $1.3 billion in 2022-23 and top Power Five conferences like the Big Ten and SEC earning hundreds of millions for their schools.” Another source says that “While a single annual viewership number is unavailable, college football draws a mass audience, with over 145 million people watching on TV and 47 million attending games in 2019, for example. More recently, for the 2024-2025 season, the College Football Playoff (CFP) championship game alone was the most-watched non-NFL sporting event, averaging 22.1 million viewers.” College football is a major part of fall, ranging from going to games, playing the sport, all the way to creating family traditions around the sport.
All in all, there are many various activities that many people partake in and greatly enjoy during the fall. These activities include visiting variations of pumpkin patches or orchards, corn mazes and hayrides, along with many Halloween festivities like trick-or-treating and fall parties. College football also comes into play with the amount of entertainment it provides people and the traditions it creates within families and communities.
