Julie Dingman Evans, Musical Theatre Department Chair
Julie Dingman Evans joined the YPAS team teaching Musical Theatre and Dance in 2018, after five years as head of the Dance program at Noe Middle School. She spent over fifteen years as a professional actor/singer/dancer before teaching, working on stages in and out of NYC, regionally, understudying Lola in the National Tour of Damn Yankees, and playing Rizzo in Grease across Europe on the International Tour of Grease. She is Orangegirl on the Original Soundtrack of the Off-Broadway hit, Shout! The Mod Musical, the last show she did in NYC, before heading off to new adventures.
She joined her husband, Ben, and their friend, Mark, on a yearlong roadtrip to all 50 states building a film documenting sustainability in America. They moved to Louisville to edit the film: “YERT - Your Environmental Road Trip,” while raising their new baby daughter, Bailey. Julie found herself teaching not long after.
Though she mostly is teaching or directing these days, you may have seen Julie onstage with Music Theatre Louisville, Stage One, Derby Dinner Playhouse, or Pandora.
As a director and/or choreographer, she has worked with Ballet Arts, Stage One Family Theatre, Noe Middle, Pandora Productions, and Tibbits Opera House in Michigan.
She holds a BFA in Performing Arts/Dance from WKU, and an MFA in Acting from UofL. She adores her colleagues at YPAS, and especially loves working daily with the lovely and amazingly talented Jay Schwandt, bringing stories to life with their students, and singing in the choir of St Andrews Episcopal Church.
