Language Arts/Reading - In Language Arts and Reading, students will develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. They will explore a variety of texts—from novels and poems to nonfiction and informational pieces—to build comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking. Students will also craft their own narratives, essays, and arguments while learning grammar, punctuation, and effective communication. This class encourages creativity, thoughtful analysis, and the ability to express ideas clearly and confidently.
Math - Students will deepen their understanding of numbers, algebraic thinking, geometry, statistics, and probability. Each year builds on the foundations of previous math learning to promote logical reasoning and real-world problem solving. Students will use mathematical tools, models, and technology to explore concepts and develop fluency. Emphasis is placed on making sense of problems, persevering in solving them, and justifying solutions using the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
Social Studies - In Social Studies, students will explore history, geography, economics, civics, and culture—focusing on the development of societies and how people interact across time and place. They’ll study world regions, U.S. history, government systems, and current events, making connections between the past and present. Students will analyze primary sources, engage in discussions, and practice thinking like historians to better understand the world around them and their role in it as informed citizens.
Science - Through hands-on experiments, observations, and inquiry-based learning, students will explore Earth and space science, physical science, life science, and engineering design. They will develop scientific thinking by asking questions, collecting and analyzing data, and constructing explanations based on evidence. Each grade level builds scientific knowledge and practices aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) adopted in Kentucky. Collaboration, curiosity, and creativity are encouraged as students explore how science impacts everyday life.
