PTA Programs

Reflections Program

Want to do something fun and exciting for the students in your school? Participate in the National PTA's Reflections Program. Reflections is the National PTA's Cultural Arts Program. Students in preschool through grade twelve are encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings on a given theme through the creative arts. Students may submit works in any of the seven arts areas:

  • Literature and/or Literature Special Needs

  • Musical Composition and/or Musical Composition Special Needs

  • Photography and/or Photography Special Needs

  • Visual Arts and/or Visual Arts Special Needs

  • Dance Choreography and/or Dance Choreography Special Needs

  • Film/Video Production and/or Film/Video Production Special Needs

  • Dance Performance Individual or Group and/or Dance Performance Individual or Group Special Needs (This category does not go on to National PTA for judging.)

Reflections Program is open to all students in attendance at a PTA school in good standing. Check your bylaws for an explanation of a unit in good standing. Entries are sent to the 15th District PTA, which submits winning entries to the Kentucky PTA. The National PTA level must be submitted by a state PTA. Membership in the PTA for students or parents is not a requirement. The deadline for entries to the district will be announced at a later date.

The Reflections Program provides the opportunity for all students from prekindergarten through grade twelve to demonstrate their skills in the arts. The Core Content is now listed on all Kentucky PTA Reflections rules and guidelines. Each student may enter in one age category:

  • Primary: preschool through grade two

  • Intermediate: grades three through five

  • Middle/Junior: grades six through eight

  • High: grades nine through twelve

  • Challenged

Local PTAs may submit entries to the district by a date to be announced later in the year. One entry per grade in each category (e.g., Music, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance, Choreography, Literature, Film/Video Production, and Dance Performance Individual or Group). For example, a PTA may submit one entry in third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade (which is the Intermediate category) in the category of Music and so forth.
