National Board Certification is offered through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Successful completion provides a lifetime Rank change in Kentucky. Once certified, National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) receive an annual $2,000 salary supplement, pending legislative funding availability and teaching placement at their location. Certification must be renewed every five years through a Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process.
JCPS provides candidate support through mentoring services and Professional Learning seminars. Candidates pay a $75 non-refundable, annual registration fee (payable each year as a candidate) and $475 per each component (payable each year per each specific component purchased). The process is based on Five Core Propositions and rigorous content and teaching standards. Certification is offered in 25 different content areas and age ranges.
