Maupin Family Letters

July 12, 2022

Dear Parenting Friends,

We hope that everyone has had a wonderful summer. Welcome to Milburn T. Maupin Elementary School! I am beyond thrilled to begin my fourth year as principal at Maupin where our motto is “From Maupin and Beyond. We’re Launching to Greatness.” We are thrilled about opening the 2022-2023 school year on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, the first day for students. Most of our staff is returning to Maupin so you will notice many familiar faces, but I also am excited to announce the following new Maupin Team members: Julia Johnson (Kindergarten), LaKisha Palmore (Academic Instructional Coach), Shenay Sullivan-Bullard (4th grade), Sydney Wessel (ECE Resource Teacher), and LaKisha Wilson (1st Grade). We have a great team of teachers who have worked hard over the summer to prepare for our students’ learning experience and to ignite their curiosity, compassion and confidence. This school year, we will continue to focus on building a culture of learning in which students are actively engaged in their learning through goal setting and tracking their progress.

Kindergarten Parents, we hope to see you on Saturday, July 30, 2022 for our Popsicles on the Playground event from 10:00 to 12:00. Students will be able to meet their teacher and meet and play with other students in their class.

Kindergarten through Fifth Grade Parents, we hope to see you on Friday, August 5, 2022 for our Readifest from 1:00 to 4:00. This year our Readifest is going to include a Block party in front of Maupin on Catalpa Street. It is going to be so much fun, you DON’T want to miss out! Families will assemble in the cafeteria for Orientation at 1:30. During our Readifest/Block Party, families will have the opportunity to meet their teacher, tour the school, complete required documents, and much more.

If you have school supplies, please drop them off at this time. If you are unable to attend the orientation due to scheduling conflicts or an emergency, we will accept walk in registration. We continue to be assigned new students and have enrollment changes, so there is a possibility that your child may be moved to another classroom prior to the start of the school year.

We look forward to seeing you soon! Enjoy the rest of your summer and stay safe! We can’t wait to see how much you grow academically this school year. Remember, you ARE beautiful, you ARE intelligent, you ARE strong, and you CAN learn.

Best Regards,

Charita Kimbrough, Principal
