LMHS MILESTONE RESOURCES FOR GRADES 9-11
Every 9-11th grader in JCPS must complete a Milestone that helps prepare you for your senior Defense of Learning. At Male, we will be completing Mini-Defenses of Learning as our Milestones.
THE LMHS MILESTONE PROCESS
IN CLASS:
Complete at least one mini-defense-worthy artifact in every course you're taking (except Study Skills). Each of your teachers will discuss their expectations for these artifacts. (You will likely create several defense-worthy artifacts in each class, but each course is responsible for a minimum of one).
Once your teacher has graded your success skill on the artifact above, complete the Artifact Reflections that is aligned to the success skill. Your teacher will make sure you complete the reflection that is tied to that course's Success Skill.
IN JTS HOMEROOMS:
Upload your artifacts to the Gallery through Otus. You can access this through Clever.com. You must upload at least 3 artifacts, but you must have an artifact selected for each of the 5 success skills.
Complete a paragraph reflection for each success skill in Gallery, thoroughly explaining how the artifact you submitted shows your progress as a learner on that skill. Use these sentence stems to guide your reflection. Each paragraph should be a minimun of 4-5 sentences.
MINI-DEFENSE OF LEARNING RESOURCES
Click on this link to watch a video explaining how to access the Gallery. Your artifacts will be uploaded to this platform in each class.
There is one reflection template per JTS Success Skill. You will complete the one that aligns to your task/course. Your teacher will assign or make sure you select the correct one.
This rubric contains every scoring element for your artifact. It may be completed by your teacher, or it may be completed in small peer-groups.

MINI-DEFENSE EXAMPLE
You are a student in a US History class, and you are completing a project on the Civil Rights Movement. This project fits perfectly with the JTS Success Skill for this course, Globally and Culturally Competent Citizen. To make this your artifact for this class, you will:
Complete and present your project as assigned by your teacher.
Complete the Artifact Reflection for Globally and Culturally Competent Citizen.
Complete ONE slide in your running JTS Artifact Slide Deck. Be sure to use the slide template for the correct Success Skill. This slide allows you to explain how the Civil Rights Movement project helped you become more globally and culturally competent and grow as a learner.
An Artifact Rubric is completed by either your teacher or a classmate, and your Mini-Defense Milestone is marked complete in our tracking platform.
This process will be completed in every class you take this year.
