These are our monthly sisterhood celebrations with our GEMS and their GEM communities. We celebrate student progress, achievements, and talents. Each GEM community pridefully represents its groups and shows its sense of belonging. Guest speakers are used to inspire our GEMS and display the limitless possibilities they can achieve.
(These days are true celebrations of sisterhood.)
GEM communities are groups aligned to the CROWN values that give students a sense of belonging and pride. Each GEM (Girls Excelling in Math and Science) takes a survey when they are admitted into the program and placed in these groups based on their strengths.
They meet each week and participate in sisterhood activities to help build their sense of belonging.
(We think of these groups as our own mini sororities.)
Sister Circles are small groups within the GEM community that meet daily to address the social and emotional needs of GEMS through activities and group discussions.
Each sister circle is led by a staff member that fosters a relationship with their GEMS to help remove their barriers and grow to their full potential.
(This time is our twist on the traditional advisory period.)
