The Future State of JCPS will bring system-wide change to Jefferson County Public Schools through investment and research-based programming that improves student learning. In 2020, the Jefferson County Board of Education approved a revenue and investment plan that seeks to “transform our students, our schools, and our city through strategic investment in the critical elements needed for all JCPS students to fulfill their academic, creative, and social potential.”

While JCPS is, and has been, making improvements and changes in a number of areas, the success of the Future State of JCPS relies, in large part, on a property tax increase passed by the school board. That revenue plan will generate more than $50 million per year for JCPS to invest in four key areas: Modernizing and building facilities; more resources for highest needs schools; racial equity and additional instructional time.
While the Future State of JCPS is investing in new facilities, teaching, racial equity, and instructional time to expand opportunities for all students, it is also a benefit to the entire community. Research shows that improved, equitable public school systems with graduates who are career or college-ready are a boon to a city’s workforce, raise the standard of living and increase civic engagement. It’s a win for both our kids and our community. And it’s happening now.
