Safety Procedures

We believe that in order for a student to learn properly, he or she must feel safe and secure and receive breakfast and/or lunch in order not to be hungry, and then the students can concentrate on learning for academic progress.

Emergency Safety Procedures

  • Each month throughout the year, Farnsley staff and students practice emergency safety procedures and evacuation drills. Following each drill, the staff reflects upon what took place and reviews suggestions for improvement. Many staff members and students know we do not believe in the old adage that "practice makes perfect." We believe that practice may make permanent. Therefore if the procedures you practice are imperfect, they will not become perfect just because you practice them, but more permanent.

  • Students and staff practice two fire drills within the first 30 days of school and at least one fire drill each month thereafter. Additionally, students and staff practice intruder alert lock-down drills, tornado drills, bomb threat drills, chemical release drills, etc.

  • Each staff member, substitute staff member, and student must become knowledgeable on the safety procedures for Farnsley Middle School. These procedures are taken seriously.

  • All Farnsley staff members wear identification badges. This helps all students identity and alert staff when they see someone in the building without a badge.

  • All visitors (parents, service workers, etc.) and substitute teachers must sign in and wear an identification badge prior to coming into proximity with the student population. If a staff member or student sees someone in the building without an identification badge, they are to alert a Farnsley staff member or administrator immediately.

  • We ask all parents and other visitors to cordially abide with our safety procedures. They are for the safety of (y)our children and for (y)our peace of mind. Thank you.

Cellular Telephone/Electronic/Telecommunication Devices Policy

Cell phones and electronic devices other than school-issued devices are not to be used during the school day from 7:40 am - 2:20 pm.

Students electing to bring a cell phone to school must keep it off and put it away for the duration of the school day until after dismissal.

IF A CELL PHONE/TELECOMMUNICATION DEVICE OTHER THAN A SCHOOL-ISSUED DEVICE IS SEEN, USED, OR HEARD, IT WILL BE CONFISCATED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL DAY. IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO RETRIEVE THE DEVICE FROM THE OFFICE AFTER THEIR DISMISSAL.

Progressive discipline will be assigned by the grade-level administrator.

PBIS Rewards

Your child’s school is utilizing PBIS Rewards to support its PBIS initiative. That sounds great, but what is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. It seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior schoolwide through the encouragement of positive behaviors. PBIS decreases office discipline referrals, increases instructional time, and improves student achievement. This intentional focus on positive reinforcement is creating and maintaining a positive school climate for the students and teachers.

Now, how does PBIS Rewards help with that?

PBIS Rewards is a digital platform that allows our staff members to recognize any student, anywhere for meeting behavior expectations. These behavior expectations are defined by the school then communicated and taught. So, when your child displays the behavior that is expected, they are recognized for it. The points earned through that recognition may be used to purchase items from the school’s PBIS store.

How does that benefit you, the parent?

As a parent, you can monitor your child’s progress and stay engaged with the PBIS Rewards Parent App! Download it for free on Google Play, the App Store, or Amazon Apps. Adding your child is simple. You’ll receive an email or letter with a QR code from your school. Open the PBIS Rewards Parent App and scan this QR code. If you have multiple children using PBIS Rewards at their school, you will be able to add each one separately.

Once your child is added to your PBIS Rewards Parent App, you will be able to see how many points they have earned, which teacher rewarded them, and how they’re spending their points. The App also has a convenient way to respond to messages sent by your child’s teachers.

Plus, if the school is using our Advanced Referral System, you will be able to see if your student receives any discipline referrals.

PBIS Rewards is helping your child’s school create a positive climate in which every student can learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The PBIS Rewards Parent App is a great tool for you to stay connected and engaged with the PBIS initiative. If you need more information, contact a PBIS administrator at your child’s school. You will receive information regarding signing up for the Family Account from your student's team teachers.
