CHURCHILL PARK'S SCHOOL WIDE RACIAL EQUITY GOALS 24-25
By May 2025, 100% of adapted Science and Social Studies units will incorporate culturally relevant materials and perspectives that reflect the diverse racial backgrounds of the students at Churchill Park School. As a result of these adaptations, 90% of students with moderate to severe disabilities will demonstrate an increase in engagement of diverse cultural and racial perspectives by tracking an increase of engagement during lessons where diverse characters are featured, lessons that expose different cultural traditions or customs, lessons that foster appreciation for diversity, and/or lessons that help students understand cultural and racial differences. This will be evidenced by their ability to engage with adapted learning materials and complete tasks aligned with their IEPs. These perspectives will be incorporated into adapted texts, visuals, hands-on-activities, and multimedia resources that are accessible for students with moderate to severe disabilities, ensuring that the content is both inclusive and relevant to their learning needs.
Engagement data will be recorded by teachers to look for upwards trends over time. (Eg - if a student initially engages 20% of the time, the goal could be for the student to engage 40% of the time by the end of the year.) Data will be discussed monthly during PLC meetings.
By May 2025, Churchill Park School will conduct no less than 8 professional development sessions that focus on cultural responsiveness, implicit bias, intersectionality, racial identity, and/or personal/social structures, racism or practices that support inclusion. All staff participating in the professional development sessions will complete a PD Reflection to assess the learning outcomes from the PD. By May 2025, 80% off staff will believe the sessions were worth their time and meaningful. 80% of staff will be able to identify at least one strategy or technique to use either in their classroom or personal life. Walk-Through forms will be completed for each teacher weekly in order to monitor the application of the strategies and/or techniques learned from professional development sessions.Â

Overview of our Purpose, Mission, and Vision for Churchill Park's Racial Equity Team:
At Churchill Park School, we are deeply committed to making sure all of our students, families, and school staff are a part of a School community that is genuinely inclusive and equitable -- in every way. We strive to provide an education environment where diversity is celebrated and cherished. To create such a culture, we have regularly called Racial Equity meetings where we, as a school staff, cover topics most would consider "taboo", "challenging" and/or "uncomfortable". These are the very topics we carefully tackle head-on. As a group, we unpack these topics in a way where we can openly dialogue, learn from one another, and thus grow, so we can better serve our students, families, and one another at Churchill Park School.
