Promotion Requirements

In order to be promoted to the 9th grade, a middle school student must pass a minimum of two-thirds of courses taken. In addition, students must pass Language Arts, Math and Social Studies as these courses are aligned with state assessments.

For more detailed information, please refer to the JCPS Student Progression, Promotion and Grading handbook.

Course Recovery

If a student receives a failing grade (U) in Language Arts or Math class in any term, he/she will be placed in course recovery. This will take place during their regularly scheduled Related Arts class. All course recovery work is completed online. If you have questions about course recovery, please contact your counselor or Ms. Lori Hays.

Now that we are more than halfway through the school year, please take a moment to check report cards through Student/Parent Portal to see if you have any "U"s for any core content classes (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies) for any of the first three grading periods. If so, an invitation has been sent to you to join the Google Classroom "Course Recovery -- Study Island" with Ms. Hays. Directions are posted on how to access course recovery assignments and what needs to be done to complete them. If anyone needs assistance with accessing or working on course recovery assignments, please reach out to Ms. Hays so she can schedule a Google Meet. We will update the Google Classroom invites after grades are posted for grading period 4.

Everyone is HIGHLY encouraged to attend ESS on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons at 2:30. Email Ms. Hays at lori.hays@jefferson.kyschools.us with any questions or concerns.
