Kindergartners show their learning by participating in hands-on activities to learn foundational reading skills using the Orton Gillingham phonics program that is throughout Kindergarten through third grade.
First graders were productive collaborators and culturally competent citizens while learning about holiday celebrations in other cultures. Students worked in groups to create a slideshow about their holiday to share with their classmates.
Second graders are well on their way to become archeologists by measuring dinosaur skeletons. They are working in small groups and measuring in both inches and feet.
Third graders learn about the water cycle and how water is cycled throughout the world . The Louisville Water Company came to talk to them about how important our water resources are in our community, how water is filtered, and the water cycle.
Fourth graders work on a variety of activities to compare and order decimals. This is one of the activities from the new math curriculum, IM (Illustrative Math), that has been implemented throughout the district.
Fifth graders participate in a whole group discussion about the structure of the text they are reading. This is one of the lessons that is in the new reading curriculum, EL Education, that has been introduced through all grades within the district.
Mrs. Wolf is working one-on-one with a student to promote reading growth.
Mrs. Williams is meeting with a small group of students to improve their reading comprehension.
Ms. Gannott is modeling math strategies for her small group of students.
Ms. Miles is modeling three digit addition and subtraction strategies for her small group of third grade students.
Mrs. Kimery is working on OG Phonics Skills with her small group of ML students.
Mrs. Steele is working one-on-one with a ML student to help them learn the English alphabet.
Ms. Vega is working on whiteboards with students to improve their knowledge of grade level math standards.
Ms. Sarmiento is working with two ML students to help improve their CVC word knowledge.
Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to behavior that provides high expectations and reinforcements to encourage positive behaviors.
Students received blue and gold paws throughout the building when demonstrating our Blue Lick Pride Pledge. Blue paws earn students weekly and end of year rewards. Gold paws earn incentives for the whole class.
