In this presentation we will discuss a wide variety of safety issues associated with internet usage by young kids- to pre-teens, parent safety controls, and strategies to make the internet a safer place for your child.
BIOGRAPHY
Derrick joined the Marine Corps at the age of 17, and did two combat deployments while serving. After discharging honorably, he started working at a school for kids on the autism spectrum, while also going to college full-time. He was hired by the Colorado State Patrol, and has been a trooper for over seven years. While working as a trooper in the Vail Valley, he was able to finish his Social Science degree graduating Cum Laude from Regis University.

BIOGRAPHY
Mr. Topp recently sold The Hermitage Bookshop in Cherry Creek which he owned and ran for 49 years. He has been reading aloud to all grade levels at the Bergens for 27 years, having started reading to his kid's classes when they were at the Bergens many years ago. By last estimate he has read over 10,000 short stories appropriate to the elementary grades. He also maintains a website as a free reading resource for kids, parents and teachers which includes both print and audio stories by award winning authors as well as numerous other resources and lists. Both of his kids, Harrison and Simon, are lifetime readers and they all continue to recommend great books to each other.

Katey Funderburgh was raised in the Evergreen and Conifer communities. She is a teacher's daughter, an older sister, a writer, a nature lover, and a proud cat mom to her kitten Thistle. Katey holds a BA in both English and Peace & Justice studies from Regis University. She is passionate about the intersections between literature and social justice. As a young writer herself, Katey attended Young Writers Conference through Elementary school, so she is ecstatic to give back to this community.

Brenda Bergreen is a professional writer, photographer, and storyteller specializing in capturing people in nature and the outdoor lifestyle. Her mission and mantra is to “love. adventurously.” Her children's book, ABCs of Adventure, features words of nature and adventure accompanied by inspirational photography combined with playful sketches.

Anxiety is the most prevalent mental health issue facing children and youth. This session will address signs of anxiety and provide tools parents can use at home to equip their children to better handle the stressors of today’s fast-paced society.
BIOGRAPHY
Bryan Shipp has eighteen years of educational experience in Jeffco Public schools working with all ages. He is currently working as a GT counselor/Social Emotional Learning Specialist at Parmalee Elementary School. Bryan lives in the tiny mountain town of Idledale and enjoys anything outdoors including hiking, biking and snowboarding.

This is a basic overview of data of suicide rates, myths and facts, warning signs and how you can help. Jeffco as a district has adopted a new suicide prevention program. This presentation will not be that program, rather it's a brief overview why we need to act and what you can watch for as a parent.
BIOGRAPHY
Liz Wehr is the Social Emotional Learning Specialist at West Jeff Elem and Wilmot. She has been at West Jeff for 7 years and this is her 2nd year at Wilmot. She has lived in Conifer for 9 years. She has two daughters, ages 12 and 16, 2 dogs, and of course her husband. She loves to ski and mountain bike. She also helps coach the Conifer High School Mountain Bike team, where her oldest daughter races. She absolutely loves living and raising her family in Conifer.
