Weekly Updates
May 2022
Up and Coming....
For CREW this month, we will be wrapping up a lot of thank yous to those who have been a part of our kindergarten journey. We will be writing thank you notes to Mrs. Ayla, our Metro Sate University student, Staunton State Park rangers, 3rd grade buddies, and Specials teachers.
During skills time, we will continue to focus on reading and writing...using our sight words and letter sounds to read text, identify individual sounds in a words, as well as writing to respond to a prompt. We will be introducing long vowel sounds and the CVCE (consonant, vowel, consonant + e) pattern. Between now and the end of the school year, our goal is to read, read, and read.
Sight words learned so far include: in, on, the, I, red, green, blue, he, up, and, a, yellow, you, black, see, to, do, it, is, purple, was, his, brown, or, for, be, by, are, with, will, of, have, from, there, where, they, we, all, one, no, not, we, what, when, then, you, said, were. Please have your child practice these words at home. New words this week are "she", "her" and "like".
Module time continues Module 3: Researching to Build Knowledge and Teach Others: Trees are Alive. We have been researching different types of trees and writing about that learning. We will continue to act as researchers as we read about a wider variety of trees and write facts about those trees.
We will be completing our kindergarten math learning as we focus on measurement, using both standard and nonstandard tools. We will then extend this learning so students can apply their kindergarten math skills to design a playground.
Other reminders:
Please start returning all of those library books!
Plan on joining us on May 24 at 2:00 for a celebration of kindergarten learning.
Thank you for all of your great support.
