I am really excited to join the Vanderhoof community this year!

I chose to be an educator because I love to give children experiences to explore, wonder and become leaders.

I was born and raised in a small rural town in Pennsylvania. When I graduated college I moved to Chignik Bay, Alaska where I tutored students K-12. Once I finished my position with Lake and Penninsula School District my husband and I moved to College Park, Maryland where I taught kindergarten for 3 years. My husband and I have a love for the outdoors and wanted more opportunities to adventure. In 2016, my husband and I moved to Loveland, Colorado. In Thompson School district I taught 1st-2nd grade for the past 4 years. This year, I will be going into my 9th year as an educator!

My husband and I are weekend warriors. We love to go backpacking, camping, hiking, and mountain biking. We have one dog, his name is Nik. He was born in Chignik Bay, Alaska where I started my teaching career. He's a well-traveled pup!

I'm looking forward to becoming a part of the Vanderhoof community while joining a group of amazing educators and students!

Hi! I’m Ms. Duguay, but you can call me Ms. D.

I'm so excited to be your first grade teacher this year. This will be my second year at Vanderhoof, and I'm thrilled to be part of this welcoming community. I've loved building relationships with this amazing group of kiddos.

I have several years experience in various positions in education, many of which have been focused on student-led inquiry and project-based learning. I began my career teaching English in Thailand. I have worked for the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, but this will be my fifth year teaching first grade. I have my master’s degree in Education and my favorite things to teach are reading & social-emotional learning.

I grew up in Florida, but I was actually born in Canada! My parents still live in Florida, and my sister lives in Atlanta. It’s nice to visit the beaches and the forests of North Georgia when I can. I’ve been in Denver for 5 years now, and I live downtown with my roommate and a cat, Nyla. I love all the seasons here, but still am getting used to snow in May!

When I'm not at school I love to travel, hike, curl up with a good book, or try my hand at snowboarding in the winter.

Even as a little girl, teaching was dear to my heart. I remember lining my stuffed animals up and reviewing math facts and spelling words with them! It was destiny and now, 28 years into my career, I can honestly say I love it even more than I did then! Over the years I’ve been able to teach grades 1-5 and was even a teacher/librarian. However, my heart is in first grade. Watching little eyes light up as they grasp concepts for the first time is a teacher’s reward, and in the first grade it happens daily! There is no better place to be!

I am not only a Colorado native, but a life long Arvada girl! I went to Hackberry Hill Elementary, North Arvada Middle School and Arvada High School. I currently live near Standley Lake with my husband of 25 years, Bryan, and my three kids; Jaden (sophomore), Malachi (freshman), and Lucy (3rd grade). My favorite thing to do outside of school is traveling with my family! I also enjoy traveling hiking, reading and gardening.

Working with Melissa Klinefelter these past 13 years has been amazing. We began working together when our (now sophomore) boys were babies. I've grown as an educator from Melissa's expertise, she is an expert at working with young learners! We were brought together through our shared classroom and we've become dear friends with a common love for 1st grade.

Vanderhoof has been my home away from home for 20 years now. I love this community, the staff, and the students that make our school amazing. Thank you for trusting me with your little treasures. I’m honored to be a part of their lives!

Welcome to 1st Grade!!! You are lucky enough to have TWO amazing teachers! Curious??? Keep reading to unveil the mysteries of this 1st Grade Classroom and all the wonderful things that happen here!

I, Melissa Klinefelter, am a proud and grateful part of a long-time job share partnership here at Vanderhoof! Keek and I have job shared in 1st grade for more than 10 years and love the way we are able to put our individual strengths and experiences together to create a highly skilled and refreshed teacher for your child!

I was born in Santa Monica, CA and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA which makes me a huge Steeler Fan! I currently live in Littleton, CO. I am married with two children. I have been blessed with a boy who is 15 and a girl who is 17. They will both attend Chatfield Senior High School. I love to cook, exercise, hike, travel, but mostly spend time with my family! Although I’ve taught Kindergarten through 6th grade, 1st grade is my favorite by far! First grade is a magical year where children grow and change tremendously! I can’t wait to be part of your child’s most exciting year of school!
