ESL Testing

What is the ACCESS test?

The ACCESS for ELLs assessment is a four-part test given once a year to all students enrolled in an ESL program in Colorado (and throughout the country). It is a tool for teachers, parents, and students to see how they are progressing in their English proficiency. The test is given in January of each year.

It is not connected to classroom grades and does not determine grade level placements.

The test is mostly taken online for grades 1-5. The kindergarten test is done one-on-one with the ESL teacher and is not computer-based.

The test results usually arrive in May. I will send the results home with your student at that time.

The four domains of the test are:

The students take one test in each of the four domains. Each test is about 45-60 minutes long.

The kindergarten test is one session and lasts about 45 minutes total.
