At Sierra, we use PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) to encourage positive behavior at our school. The idea of PBIS is to create a positive school climate in which students learn and grow. One way of doing this is by celebrating positive behaviors instead of primarily pointing out negative behaviors.

We use "ROAR" to show behaviors expected at Sierra. There are posters around the school with examples of expectations of "ROAR behavior" specific to each location. Students know what ROAR stands for and can speak to what it looks like at Sierra.

My child said they got a ROAR ticket today. What does that mean?
When students are caught displaying "ROAR behavior" staff members can give them a ROAR ticket. They fill them out and turn them into their classroom bucket. At the end of each month, there is a drawing for prizes. The more tickets they collect, the better chance they have to win! Celebrate ROAR tickets with your child! It's a big deal!

My child brought home a Think Sheet today. What does that mean?
Think sheets are used at Sierra to help students think through their choices. When a student displays a negative behavior, teachers speak with the student about that behavior. If the student continues that behavior, teachers may then give them a Think Sheet. They are sent home for parents to sign.
The goal of a Think Sheet is to help students think about how their behavior affects themselves and others in hopes that they do not repeat that behavior. Think Sheets are NOT a punishment. We do not recommend punitive punishments for receiving Think Sheets. Our hope with them is to open a dialogue between parents and students about their choices and to maintain communication between school and home.
