Content Grade

Students' assessment grade will be a direct reflection of learning.. In the grade book you'll see an essential learning like, "R1-2: Theme: Determine a theme or central idea of a text ." The number 1.2 means this concept can be found in our first unit and it is the second essential standard in the unit. The "R" means it is a reading standard. If you see a "W" preceding the number, it means it is a writing standard. In the description section of the assessment it will include the language from the common core such as: "Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to the characters, setting, and plot; provide an objective summary of the text. (CCSS: RL.8.2)."

Learning targets: When a student demonstrates that they have learned a target, they will get credit. Learning targets are scored on a 4 point scale:

4-Advanced 3-Proficient 2-Approaching 1-Basic 0-Inconclusive Evidence

A blank grade indicates that a student has not had the opportunity to demonstrate the learning yet. Grades are fluid and may go up or down depending on demonstration of skills. Some content from first semester may reappear in second semester if it is an ongoing concept.

Assignments (Classwork & Homework): These are opportunities to learn the content that is in assessments. Grades here indicate how well the student is practicing the content.

Book Projects: These are opportunities as well to practice content that is in the assessments as well as further develop reading comprehension, fluency, and enjoyment!
