Mrs. Barlow

Mrs. Colleen Barlow is excited to be entering her twenty third year of doing what she loves, teaching! In 2002, she received her bachelor degree in Middle Childhood Education at Xavier University with minors in mathematics and literacy. After teaching sixth grade for three years in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Barlow was anxious to return home to Colorado. She feels very fortunate to be teaching in the same school district that she attributes her early desire to explore and be a lifelong learner, Jefferson County. Mrs. Barlow joined the Powderhorn community in 2005 and appreciates being part of a learning community that values every child while using best practice to ensure success. Though she began at Powderhorn as a sixth grade teacher, went on to enjoy many years as a second grade teacher, she is currently thrilled to be assisting all students in enhancing their critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity with the use of technology. In 2010, Mrs. Barlow completed her Masters of Science with an emphasis in Integrating Technology. She understands the importance of teaching to the 21st century learner and providing the tools to promote forward thinking. Most recently, Mrs. Barlow earned a Computer Science Cybersecurity Certificate through MindSpark and Metro University's STEMpath program.

On a personal level, Colleen is happily married to her husband, Sean. The two are proud parents of their nineteen year old daughter, Isabella. Colleen values the time she gets to spend with her family and in her free time can often be found with her head in a book, outside enjoying the great outdoors, at the dog park with her akita- Cap, relaxing on the lake, or crafting.
