Problem:
On January 16th, 2016, something happened in my life that changed me forever. The past couple months had seemed normal, but looking back on them through the lens of hindsight proves they were far from that. After a long ski day, my mom chose to take me in to the ski patrol clinic based on a suggestion from calling a doctor. In that ski patrol clinic, we learned that I had developed Type one Diabetes. The fact that none of my family knew anything about T1D lead us to believing it was a mistake, as Diabetes was not something that a 10 year old girl who was very active would get. It has now been 4 years, and I know so much that I never knew before about Diabetes, but still there are so many people who think they know about what it is but have misinformation.
This misinformation often leads to assumptions that can be very harmful, especially to new diabetics.
