"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything" - Plato
Hello Devinny students and families. I am so excited to return to this wonderful community as your music teacher! This is my 25th year of teaching elementary general music, and I love teaching Kindergarten through 5th grade general music classes every day. I am a Level III Kodály certified teacher, having received my training in folk song research, pedagogy, and conducting from the Kodály Institute at CSU. Being a Kodály-inspired teacher, I emphasize singing, music literacy, quality folk literature, movement, and age appropriate instrumental experiences for students. For more information about the Kodály methodology, please click here. I also have training in the Orff and Dalcroze philosophies of teaching music.
I grew up in Rockford, IL. As a little girl, I always loved music! I learned to play the piano starting at age 4, and the cello starting in 7th grade. But my true love was singing. I attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL, where I received my degree in Music Education with a major in voice and minor in piano. At IWU, I had the opportunity to perform in voice recitals and operas. After moving to Colorado with my husband (who is also a musician), I began teaching in the Adams 14 district in Commerce City, CO. In 2015, I moved to the Jeffco district where I taught at Molholm and Dutch Creek. I graduated with my Master's Degree in Music Education with Kodály emphasis from Colorado State University in 2015.
I am a proud mom of two amazing children: Kason (age 16) and Gwendolyn (age 13) who were also both Devinny Knights. The Nicholas family enjoys camping, hiking, exploring museums, traveling, and of course...making music together!
