This unit will focus on family and U.S. traditions. Students will learn that traditions can be shown sequentially on a calendar. They will also explain how their traditions are connected to their own family culture. They will compare their family traditions to the traditions of others.
This unit will focus on plants and animals. We will learn that all plants and animals have parts and that each part has a function. We will also learn about how plants and animals respond to and their environments. We will study how plants and animals grow and develop. Finally, we will compare and contrast individuals of the same kind of plant or animal.
This unit will focus on learning about some of the people that have shaped our country and inspire us still today. We will also learn about important places and symbols in our country.
This unit will focus on space. We will learn about the patterns of the motion of the sun, moon, and stars in the sky. We will also learn that seasonal patterns of sunrise and sunset can be observed, described, and predicted.
This unit will focus on how we earn money; both as children and as adults. We will also discuss why we need to earn money (our needs and wants) and how we can set goals around money in order to help us get what we need or want.
This unit will focus on waves. Students will learn about the properties and behaviors of waves. They will learn about what light is and how it travels from place to place with light sources, mirrors, and shadows. They will also discuss how they use their senses to learn about the worlds around them.
This unit will focus on understanding how where we live influences how we live. We will discuss physical features, culture, and climate of different places. We will also learn about using tools, like maps and globes, to help us understand places in our world.
