Your #1 priority is to learn. All behavior expectations and rules are aimed at creating the best possible learning environment for all learners. The following intervention steps will be taken to address concerns related to classroom rules or expectations:
Reminder: a verbal reminder to respect your own learning and/or the learning of others. I have high expectations for you and I want you to have high expectations for yourself. Part of learning is reflection...a reminder can be a helpful tool for refocusing.
Adjustment: sometimes a reminder is not enough to help us refocus; a change in environment is another tool in your toolbox. I encourage you to be reflective, and if your current seat or the people you are working with are distracting, find a new workspace in the room. I may also ask you to change seats or quickly conference with me one-on-one if I think an adjustment is a good idea. Changes may be needed from time to time to ensure the best possible learning environment. When given a reminder or asked to adjust, please listen and I will come talk to you in private as soon as possible to discuss what I need or determine what you need to be successful. Remember, at times I may not be able to have a conversation with you immediately to explain why I need you to make an adjustment,, but I will try to speak with you ASAP.
Refocus: sometimes we just need a break. I may ask you to refocus and take a break from the classroom. You will complete a Refocus Reflection and then come back to the classroom ready to learn.
Referral: Violations of school policy, offensive language, bullying, physical altercations towards others or classroom property will result in an immediate referral.
At any step in the intervention process I may contact parents/guardians to support you.
