7th grade starts in a reading unit which includes a variety of short stories. Students analyze how the narrative elements relate to each other. For example, how setting affects character and influences the theme of the story. Then we move into a realistic fiction writing unit.

8th grade starts in a reading unit which includes a variety of short stories. Students analyze the interactions between characters. This reading informs the writing unit which is a memoir (non-fiction based narrative) that utilizes the same techniques that fiction writers use to bring their stories to life.
