About Second Step

Second Step Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) - Second Step SEL is research-based, teacher-informed, and classroom-tested to promote the social-emotional development, safety, and well-being of children from Early Learning through Grade 8. This is the school wide tool that will be taught to students in every classroom. How this looks in the classroom:

• The teacher explains a concept with words, pictures, video, and/or audio

• Students practice the concept through skill practice, group discussion, individual writing, or partner work

• The teacher continues reinforcing the concept throughout the week

• The teacher sends information home for students to work on with parents

• The teacher checks for understanding

• The teacher re-teaches where necessary

Second Step Home Links: Each grade level and lessons have information for families to use at home to continue the development of students social emotional skills.
