Friday, May 17, 2019 - Extravaganza Day!

It's our last Friday for this school year. For me it has gone quickly. We have the Extravaganza today. The students will be teaching other kids how to write their name in Viking letters on paper rune stones. Then they get to explore all the other booths as well. We wrapped up our last math unit yesterday, and will finish with thirteen colonies on Tuesday. In writing and reading we are making a year end memory book and have our last spelling test today. The students will bring home everything from their desks on Tuesday and Wednesday and report cards will go home with them next Thursday. We will finish the school year with a picnic lunch and release is at 12:45 PM on Thursday.

Tuesday, April 30, 2019 - Mother Nature is Messing Around!

Hi Families - waking up to some more of this white stuff reminds us of the adventures we have living in Colorado. Please check that your student is wearing a warm coat today and tomorrow - several were very pink cheeked returning from recess yesterday. We have a quick week where we'll be working on "Space". In writing each student has a book related to space and we delve into research with charts, maps, and models. In reading we look at John Glenn's experiences with NASA. Science has us looking at the universe, planets, our moon, etc., and math is a continuation of three digit story problems using a variety of solving methods to work on attention to precision. Stay warm everyone!

Sunday, April 21, 2019 - Happy Easter!

Several students shared they were having special plans today. I hope those went well for everyone. I enjoyed having all my children home for brunch and dinner.

The weeks continue to be busy as we complete some units and begin others. We finish our opinion writing this week and begin tackling complex texts in Reading. In Social Studies we finish Canada and move to Astronomy in Science. Our math unit with multi-digit operations continues until the end of the year. We have to accomplish being fluent in the multiplication tables. Please continue to work on those math facts when there is not other homework. Many times the students get their homework done before leaving at 3:15 PM.

Friday, April 12, 2019

It appears the Spring Break germs only took a few of our students down, but they have been quick to recover as well. Tomorrow is the Science Fair. You may come through in the afternoon to view all the projects the kids have worked so hard on. It will be in the gym and cafeteria.

The Dash robots arrived yesterday in our classroom. We are using them to work on direction with our Canada unit. To say the kids were excited is an understatement. Obviously, robots teach so much more and the students have embraced logic, sequencing and beginning coding very well.

The students averaged 85% on our latest unit math over fractions - I'm thrilled! Next week we return to multiplication, and multi-digit addition and subtraction. In writing we will be getting to the end of our opinion unit. We will slowly move into Astronomy for Science and reading will be more sequencing.

Spring is here in Colorado - please send your student prepared for the weather.
