August/September Learning
We will be learning our PRRS, daily routines, and making new friends! The first 4-6 weeks are all about establishing effective daily routines and building a culturally responsive, positive learning environment!
Math: Building our Math Community and Interpreting Data
Literacy: Practicing our literacy rotations to begin differentiated reading groups. Identifying vowels/consonants and practicing decoding and writing short vowel words.
Drawing a first-grade illustration (setting and detail) and learning the parts of a complete sentence: noun, verb, begin with a capital letter, spaces, and punctuation.
Social Studies/Science: Family Traditions and how to be a good citizen
PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support)
ART, MUSIC, P.E. (AMP)
First graders do not go to AMP with their class. Students are grouped with other classes in blue, yellow, or green teams. AMP rotates on a 3-day rotation. For example, one color group goes to Art for 3 days and then rotates.
However, for the first week of school, students rotate ABC, so that AMP teachers can see all students the first week.
Your first grader will know their AMP color group on the first day of school and can share it with you. They are also great at learning the rotation schedule quickly.
It is encouraged by all AMP teachers to wear tennis shoes every day.
