If students are not eating breakfast, they are welcome into our classroom at 7:35am.
Students must be in the classroom by 7:45 to be counted on time. This is our chance to go over important information for the day and have a morning circle.
I am trained in IMSE Orton-Gillingham (OG) comprehensive and intermediate. OG is a structured Literacy approach that helps all children learn to read; not just those who are struggling.
This block of time is for strategic intervention. We use this time to help intervene or extend in any subject needed.
At Slater, we believe students need more physical activity for health, but also so that they can come back to class refreshed and ready to learn.
This is our chance to teach the reading lesson for the day. We also spend time working on phonemic awareness.
During Guided Reading, students move to different activities, possibly with different teachers to help meet their specific reading needs to allow for targeted instruction.
We alternate between science and social studies each different unit.
Students go to recess first then lunch in the cafeteria. School lunch is FREE to all students this year regardless of their free and reduced lunch status. BUT PLEASE STILL FILL OUT THE APPLICATION. We get extra funding depending on how many families qualify.

Our math curriculum supports partner and group work with the teacher facilitating learning.
Students spend 3 days in a rotating specials class of art, music, and PE.
We will have a whole group lesson at the start of writing. Students will be released to work on writing independently and/or pulled into one on one conferences or small groups.
