Extra Credit Information
If you are not satisfied with your numerical grade, you are welcome to do extra-credit work. Ideas for extra credit activities include: labs or experiments, problem sets, reading reviews, book reports, essays, films, decorations and art work, and reports are all accepted as long as they pertain to the class you are taking. Keep in mind that the most important factor for doing extra credit is it gives you another chance to learn!
Try to do extra credit that will help you on the next test. That way you get more bang for your buck. Material must be written in your own words and references are required for your written work to be considered for extra credit. Perhaps the most beneficial extra credit activities involve doing unassigned practice problems out of the book. For every multistep problem (> 4 Magic Steps) completed, you will earn ½ of an extra credit point.
Test corrections can be done for extra credit and also could be done to earn a few points back on a test if completed within a week of taking a test. Corrections for points cannot be done if the test has already been debriefed. You must retake the whole test. In either case, make an appointment with the teacher ahead of time so that he/she can be present to monitor your correction session. If you are doing the corrections for extra credit, use the original test to find what you did right and wrong and do the corrections on a blank sheet of paper. Make neat, organized, and well labeled corrections for the questions/problems you wish to earn credit on. You MUST turn in the original test and the corrections by the end of the session.
Extra credit will only be counted once all regular classroom work is completed. Extra credit can help you if you are a few points from a higher grade and allows a way to reward motivation, ambition, desire, and hard work. It can also be used as an insurance policy if you blow a test. Most students find that they can rack up substantial extra credit by doing a few extra assignments each week as the points will accumulate throughout the semester.
Extra credit is recorded in Infinite Campus through the end of each marking period but not calculated on the portal spreadsheet so you won’t see your percent change, it will just impact your letter grade at the end of each marking period when grades are submitted.
Typically, at the end of each semester, if an assignment or test were to be redone, your grade impact might be in the 1/10's of a percent. With our extra credit program, you can earn up to 3 whole percentage points!
Extra credit is always helpful and can never hurt you and the points will be continually tallied throughout the semester according to the following scale:
-If you have 1 - 30 extra credit points accumulated during the semester, your course grade will increase by 1 percentage point. This means your letter grade will go up if you have 89, 79, 69, or 59 percent.
-If you have 31 - 90 extra credit points accumulated during the semester, your course grade will increase by 2 percentage points. This means your letter grade will go up if you have 88, 78, 68, 58 percent.
-If you have over 90 extra credit points accumulated during the semester, your course grade will increase by 3 percentage points. This means your letter grade will go up if you have 87, 77, 67, 57 percent.
