School nursing, is a specialized practice of nursing, that protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses are grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential.
My philosophy is directed toward the early academic success of students through a healthy lifestyle by maintaining a healthy mind, body, and spirit. In turn, academic success is an excellent indicator for the overall well-being of youth and a primary predictor and determinant of adult health outcomes. Leading national education organizations recognize the relationship between health and education, as well as the need to embed health into the educational environment for all students.
School health and nutrition interventions have been shown to improve not only children’s soundness but also their learning potential and life choices in the short-and long-term.
